Confidence is a key to success and making sure your team and guests all know what is expected is essential. Here are some ideas that may help.
Should there be an offering?
This is a somewhat controversial subject. In Southend be believe that an opportunity to support the work of FGB shoul be given but that it should be very low key. We're not about making money and any whiff of a suggestion that we are is very off putting especially to guests who don't come from a church background.
In some meetings offerings are taken in plastic boxes but this is something to be discouraged. Who wants to see what is given? A small bag on the tables or a box by the exit may be more appropriate.
Wording we have used on bags:
'At meals we don’t ask for financial support from guests but to those who come regularly and wish to help in our work there is an opportunity to give and you will find bags placed on the tables. The money is used to support our speakers and to allow us to invite as many people as possible to our dinners. Please don’t feel obliged, but if you would like to contribute towards keeping our outreach going we are most grateful. All we ask is that you don’t give anything that would otherwise go to your church.'
